Our launch: 24 August 2014

Our Team

24th August 2014- Launch
Our wonderful team consists of 13 dynamic, vibrant, ambitious and hardworking young people who have dedicated their time to make a change in their lives.

This was a day which we will never forget as we were stepping out and telling people that we have arrived. We performed a short art piece themed "the spirit of Africa" and it was welcomed and appreciated by the audience (Pilgrim Church Ministry). It was our first performance as a group and it has created a spirit of excitement and motivation in us that we realised that we have so much talent and potential we want to share with the world.

The main reason for establishing this organisation was to bring together a group of young people who want to make a change in their lives. Young people who are not waiting for things to happen but are striving hard to create opportunities for themselves so they can succeed and become better individuals.

We have made it our mission that we want to see more young people becoming involved in changing their lives. Many young people just sit around after they complete their education and wait for employment. They then become discouraged if nothing comes their way and end up involving themselves with things that destroy their future and discourage their dreams. We hope that through our organisation which will aim at encouraging, motivating and empowering young people to start living their dreams, will tackle and help overcome this negative attribute that many young people have.

If we start to be the change, others will see and they will also want to see themselves change. We aspire to visit young people at schools, churches, orphanages and those who just idle around in their community doing nothing. We want to introduce and encourage entrepreneurship amongst young people and leading by example ourselves, we aim to get involved in vegetable plantation. With this idea, we aim to plant a certain amount of vegetables and sell them in the community as a way of raising funds for those members who come from unprivileged homes. By starting small, we will be able to start getting into the spirit of wanting to do more things that can help us to live better lives and be able to support our families as well.

This is an organisation that aims to make young people enjoy being young and creative. Whatever idea they might have, we want to help them realise that: you will never know if you will fail unless you try. Even if you fail, you just need to shake the dust off and try something else. Together we can make it work....

Motivation: Education is the key that opens the door of opportunities

My Success is my Responsibility

"Education in its general sense is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training or research."- (Wikipedia: 2014)

Looking at the definition of education given above I come to an understanding that education is the acquiring of knowledge and the passing on of this same knowledge to others. Knowledge on its own is defined as, "facts, information and skills acquired through experience or education.". This clearly means that one needs education in order to live, interact and understand all aspects of the human life and human activity. The question would be if we really understand how important it is to motivate one to be educated so that their lives can be better and prosperous.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"- Nelson Mandela
Being educated opens doors for one to see the world in a whole new way and understand how the world operates. If we refer to one being educated it doesn't necessarily mean that one has to have a doctorate degree to be educated but we refer to one actually having the knowledge and skills to do what they want to do. If one wants to become a singer it is important for one to have understanding of music as a literature. You need to educate yourself how to read music so you can grow in the profession you have chosen.

Networking or interacting with other people socially or professionally requires one to be able to communicate using a common medium of language which is English and understand world current affairs. Hence, it is crucial to encourage and motivate young people to have the passion of educating themselves and to also have the spirit of curiosity of wanting to know more of how things came to being, as well as acquiring the skills to change how things are. Being educated not only affects your mind but it affects how you view yourself, your self-esteem and how others view you too. If you are knowledgeable in a certain field of life and having the understanding thereof, you are most likely able to elaborate more on that field.

This is what we aim to achieve in our programme. We are meeting this week and we will be discussing the importance of education in our lives and we are going to try and make education interesting and fun. Our session is going to include setting achievable pass rate goals, learning Basic English Grammar, presentations and public reading, exploring study methods and having a spelling contest. By doing this we are showing young people that education can still be fun and it is very beneficial to ones future and success.

One needs to be educated or knowledgeable no matter what path you wish to take in your life. In order to become a professional in your field of work you need to acquire more skills and knowledge of what you are doing through education. I challenge you to change the way you look at education, stop looking at it as many years of hard work and studying, look at it as a key to opening a door of opportunities for personal growth, increased self-confidence, immeasurable experience and sustainable success.

On your journey to becoming educated and knowledgeable, always remember that your success is your responsibility, only you can make your success a reality. Good Luck and God bless......

Introduction: Our young people

Take time to speak to a young person.....

P-YEP youth programme
Young people spend most of their time thinking of things that do not bring any growth or development to their lives. We often overlook the fact that your thoughts determine your reaction. If I constantly think of negative things, I produce negative outcomes in my life. This is why it is important that we encourage our young people to fix their minds on positive thinking and motivate them to have dreams and goals in their lives.

Most disadvantaged children who do not often have the fancy technological gadgets tend to find other negative things to do to keep them busy like drinking or smoking. They don't have anything interesting or exciting that challenges them mentally and this makes them want to be involved in things that will make them forget how unprivileged they are.

If we were to create an environment in which our disadvantaged young people could have facilities that could keep them busy to a point that they forget their family situations or how they don't have what their friends have, we would change a nation of unmotivated youth to ambitious and zealous young men and women.

We often identify what the problems are in our society but do we ever try to come up with methods or solutions on how to tackle these societal problems? Sometimes we don't need a lot in order to deal with an issue, we just need time. Time to just speak with one young person and hear what they feel would change the youth to want to succeed in their lives and by doing this, the young people themselves are letting us know that they need help because they too want a change in their lives.

Our young people just need to know and see that they are loved, appreciated and cared for. Support and encouragement is what makes them see that there is more to life than getting involved with the wrong crowd. I have decided that my mission would be to always tell any young person I meet that "you are destined for greater things in your life", I know that even if they might pretend like they don't hear me, what I have just said will make them think more about their life.

To change a community, take time to speak to young people, put yourself in their shoes and try to be the change you want to see. Let's motivate our young people to bear fruits that will lead them to success and prosperity in their lives. Through our support and encouragement to our young people this world can be a better place....
